THE ACTOR WORKSHOP

THE ACTOR WORKSHOP

As a part of ongoing training I run actor training workshops. These laboratory styled workshop gives actors a chance to keep their acting muscles toned and in top form. As artists of any level and discipline being open and available to our impulse is crucial to the creative process. The most important mission for an actor is to listen, respond and connect. This workshop is specifically designed for actors to stay engaged with their body and breath. The workshop helps actors find truth and authenticity within their work and engage with instinct and impulse. With cross-disciplinary exercises we will look at keeping the body, the breath and text alive while engaging in an ensemble environment. The workshop gives you the place to explore methodology you can apply to your personal artistic process and practice, awakening your impulse and the possibility for creation.

Alister Smith’s artisitc mission

Create dynamic theatre that ignites imagination and inpires action

The Smith Company is a production house that gives me a place to explore and investigate work that is personal to my artistic journey and to provide further interrogation of craft and process.  Formally known as Red Room Theatre Company, this collective has been renamed to reflect the evolving nature of my practice. With this company I have been able to work in conjunction with other companies, production groups, co-ops, theatres and individual artists.

The production has a powerful and cohesive vision which is pulled together across lighting, staging, costume design, sound design, direction and performance. From the moment the audience enters the space, they are completely immersed in the vision of the show.

The Smith Company and director Alister Smith present an excellent production….The cast, under the superb direction of Smith work valiantly.

Ambitious & Inspiring!
— The Arts Review
Smith and Co. have done a tremendous job bringing the hardly performed early works of Tennessee Williams to the stage. Such dedication to the craft from both cast and crew provides a thoroughly entertaining evening... reminding us why we shouldn’t just read the classics—we need to see them performed!
